Here is what we're working on and
thinking at Hedgehog security.

Hedgehog Security took part in the White Hat Rally over the weekend (7 – 10 Sep) and it was quite the adventure!
The White Hat Rally is a fun driving experience that runs over the course of three days and brings together professionals in the information security industry. The rally also has a charitable aim – to raise funds for the children and young people’s charity, Barnardo’s.
The first evening consisted of registration, meeting the other teams and making a start on solving the navigation clues. The next three days were spent travelling from one scenic spot to the next to meet with the other teams and join in with games.
Here’s our recap of the three days:

Day 1

The rally tasked the teams with clues, questions and puzzles to solve. The teams then figured out the best route based on puzzles that were received the evening before.
The first location was Wookey Hole Cave, a cave that the river Ax flows from. It is believed that this is the site of a witch who was turned to stone by a priest in medieval times. The teams also had the chance to admire the incredibly rare geology that can be spotted there.
After driving to Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury, the teams then stopped at Cerne Abbas which is known for the Cerne Abbas Giant, the 55 meters tall man that is carved into the white chalk rock. The day then ended in Bournemouth, with supper (and plenty of beer) on the pier!

Day 2

Saturday was more activities orientated, but still using the same traditional road rally clues.
The teams rode across the bay from Bournemouth to Swanage on the ferry and then visited Corfe Castle. After visiting Lulworth Cove, we stopped at Portland Bill, the UK’s most famous lighthouse. Next up was Pundbury, Prince Charle’s personally designed township. Gorecombe Extreme Sports was the highlight of the day as we took part in off-road quad biking, an assault course, archery and egg catapults! In the evening, participants gathered at Hot Rocks in Bournemouth for dinner, cocktails and beer.

Day 3

The last day of the rally. After coffee and cake at Millford-on-Sea, we drove through the New Forest and gathered with the other teams at the National Motor Museum. This is also where the prize giving ceremony took place and Hedgehog Security gave out prizes to the top three teams!
We’d like to thank the organisers of the White Hat Rally for putting on such a great event! We had a great time meeting others in the industry and taking in the sights.
All teams taking part in the rally had the shared aim of raising money for Barnardo’s. While the rally is over, you can still donate to this amazing charity. All money goes straight to Barnardo’s so they can continue in supporting vulnerable children and young people across the UK. Please click here to donate, thank you.
